Farm Stay Guide

Welcome to GSD's new Farm Stay Guide designed for farmers in the Gulf region who are considering planning for and setting up a farm stay on their property.

The guide will talk you through what a farm stay is, the market opportunity, what the benefits are to you, setting up your business, other considerations such as regulations and local laws, and marketing your business.

This is part of GSD’s commitment to members, key stakeholders and partners to drive economic success in our region. The Gulf region is ripe for farm stay experiences, with agritourism integral to growth in the tourism sector and increasing overnight stay options for visitors. Farm stays continue to be high on the bucket list for visitors to the Gulf region, and this guide will help drive new experiences.

GSD will continue to support farmers across our region, and you can contact us any time for support or information.

This project was delivered by GSD with financial assistance provided by the Queensland Government’s Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning under the Regional Economic Futures Fund.

This manual provides guidance for promotional activities that increase Gulf and outback agritourism experiences, including regional workshops and forums to coach tourism proponents in product development.

We’ve compiled a list of key steps to help you understand what it takes to start a station stay business.

You might also find it helpful to refer to as you navigate through the establishment process.

This list of key steps will help you on your way, but we encourage you to work through the rest of the manual for more detailed information on the establishment process.

Regions Represented

GSD strives to represent all people, businesses, corporations in the Gulf Region, lobbying for greater funding and support from higher government institutions.

We also work closely with other LGAs surrounding the Gulf Savannah region to leverage opportunities, strengthen our regional economic development approaches, and develop joint initiatives.
